The lynburn legacy6/9/2023 ![]() This book is utterly fabulous - yes, utterly. Kami is one of the coolest young adult heroines I’ve read, and her story is full of humor, dark intrigue, supernatural twists, harrowing mystery and sweet romance. Who is responsible for the bloody deeds in the depth of the woods? What is her own mother hiding? And now that her imaginary friend has become a real boy, does she love him? Does she hate him? Can she trust him? ![]() Kami is not one to shy away from the unknown - in fact, she’s determined to find answers for all the questions Sorry-in-the-Vale is suddenly posing. The mysterious twin sisters who abandoned their ancestral home a generation ago are back, along with their teenage sons, Jared and Ash, one of whom is eerily familiar to Kami. The Lynburn family has owned the spectacular and sinister manor that overlooks Sorry-in-the-Vale for centuries. Her life is in order, just the way she likes it, despite the voice in her head.īut that all changes when the Lynburns return. She has a best friend, runs the school newspaper, and is only occasionally caught talking to herself. Still, Kami hasn’t suffered too much from not fitting in. ![]() She wasn’t silent about her imaginary friend during her childhood and is thus a bit of an outsider in her sleepy English town of Sorry-in-the-Vale. ![]() Kami Glass loves someone she’s never met … a boy she’s talked to in her head ever since she was born. ![]()

Isaac bashevis singer satan in goray6/8/2023 ![]() ![]() (It is clear that only the men are benefitting from this new Messianic age: whose Messiah? which kingdom of God?) In this connection, an interesting theme of the story is how religious extremism manifests as sexual violence, and how eschatological fervor can contribute to extremes of inequality. ![]() Singer gives us an interesting view of the clash between religious authority and messianism, highlighting the tenuous connection between imperfect social structures created to sustain human flourishing and eschatological hopes for their annihilation (in other words, there is a reason that apocalypticism arises in times of political unrest). Based on the true story of the seventeenth-century apostate messiah, this novel tracks the tragic twists and turns of life in a small village awaiting word from a distant land about the promised one. ![]() Isaac Bashevis Singer's Yiddish masterpiece is historically illuminating, theologically penetrating, and as strikingly relevant as ever. ![]()

Well of ascension6/8/2023 ![]() ![]() He renounced Alendi and left, hoping this would dissuade the man from going to the Well. ![]() However, Kwaan noted that the legends in the copperminds and in text differed from the ones he had memorized, and how one such case was in the description of Alendi. He and a group of Terris packmen journeyed along with Alendi towards the Well. When Kwaan met Alendi, he was surprised at how well the man fit the legend. The Well was within Terris legend, and it was said that a man, known as the Hero of Ages, would use the power of the Well to help the world. In the end, only someone wielding and balancing the diametrically opposing forces of Preservation and Ruin could save the world. Releasing the power at the Well ended up freeing Ruin from imprisonment, essentially dooming the planet. The original text was more vague on what to do with the power. However, this was a corruption of the text, orchestrated by Ruin. It is said in the Terris legends that the Hero of Ages will release the power at the Well of Ascension and use it to save mankind. It is also the place where Rashek radically altered the world using this power, and became the Lord Ruler. This was power that could supposedly save mankind. The Well of Ascension is the mythical place where enormous energies would gather every thousand years. ![]() For the second book in the series, see Mistborn: The Well of Ascension. ![]()

Mind of the Raven by Bernd Heinrich6/7/2023 ![]() Each new discovery and insight into raven behavior is thrilling, at once lyrical and scientific. Mind of the Raven follows an exotic journey-from New England to Germany, and from Montana to Baffin Island in the high Arctic-offering dazzling accounts of how science works in the field, filtered through the eyes of a passionate observer of nature. ![]() Heinrich's passion for ravens has led him around the world in his research. To survive among such dangerous, wily predators, they had to become intelligent, too. He studies their daily routines, and in the process, paints a vivid picture of the ravens' world. But as animals can only be spied on by getting quite close, Heinrich adopts ravens, thereby becoming a 'raven father,' as well as observing them in their natural habitat. At the heart of this book are Heinrich's love and respect for these complex and engaging creatures, and through his keen observation and analysis, we become their intimates too. Heinrich theorizes that ravens coevolved with wolves, and with early human hunters. Heinrich involves us in his quest to get inside the mind of the raven. ![]() But as animals can only be spied on by getting quite close, Heinrich adopts ravens, thereby becoming a "raven father," as well as observing them in their natural habitat.
